Frequently asked questions
Detailed information about Xtract DetoxWhat is the Lymphatic System?
The Lymphatic System is the body’s purification plant. Most of what is known as the immune system is actually the work of the lymph system. The lymph system is involved in the production of white blood cells (lymphocytes) that seek out, capture and destroy foreign substances and then remove them from the body. Lymph capillaries are responsible for the absorption of interstitial fluid from the tissues. Lymphatic vessels are thin walled vessels that move lymph throughout the body, passing through numerous lymph nodes which filter out unwanted materials such as bacteria, pathogens, damaged cells, excess fluids and fats.
What is XTRACT Detox™?
XTRACT Detox is a proprietary technique that works with the lymphatic system.
It is an Oil Change for Your Body™
XTRACT is a touch technique related to SLD, simulating the action of normal Lymph movement. Lymphatic drainage techniques provide regular stimulation of the Lymph vessels underneath the skin which can improve the flow and assist in bringing the body into balance which can then allow the body to heal itself.
What is the difference between XTRACT Detox and massage?
In traditional massage, the therapist is accessing the muscle layer of the body, to do this they often have to utilize very deep muscle techniques to achieve the desired effect. In contrast, Lymphatic Drainage accesses the lymphatic capillaries, which are [just] under the [surface of the] skin.

What is the difference between Lymphatic Drainage and “lymphatic massage”?
Lymphatic massage is a bit of a misnomer. A massage therapist’s scope excludes working on any part of the body that is swollen (edema, lymphedema); this normally falls under the scope of a physical therapist. In order to work with lymphedema, they must obtain a specialized certification in MLD, this is normally a function of a Physical Therapist.
Massage itself can be performed on any part of the body and with varying degrees of pressure as preferred by the client.
Lymphatic Drainage must be performed in a specific series of actions performed on the entire body as the lymphatic system only moves in one direction. The process helps the lymphatic system gather and move fluid to the lymph nodes, where the body takes over to filter and guide fluids out of the body through the kidneys and colon.
The Lymphatic system has no natural pump which leads to it gradually being overloaded with the barrage of modern day toxins. Being unable to remove enough toxins, it is forced to store them in the connective tissues, leading to chronic ailments.
XTRACT Detox is a proprietary lymphatic drainage technique that assists the lymphatic system with gathering, clearing and releasing the excess fluid and toxins.
Where does the lymphatic drainage send the fluid?
Typically, lymphatic channels drain toward the thoracic duct, which is the main lymphatic vessel responsible for drainage. Cleared lymph fluid re-enters the bloodstream, where toxins are naturally ejected from the body via the liver and colon. XTRACT redirects excess fluids out of the body through the bladder resulting in more expedient elimination.
What should you do before and after detoxing?
Consult with your healthcare professional first if you have acute or serious medical conditions or are on prescription medications. Dehydration or depletion of essential nutrients sometimes occurs afterwards. Take appropriate action based on your body’s needs. A detox may result in temporary side effects such as headaches and other aches and pains, nausea, fatigue, skin eruptions, emotional irritability, gas, tight muscles, yawning, temporary stopping of menstruation and temporary constipation or diarrhea, as toxins are released from the body. After your body releases the toxins, you may feel joy, peace, lightness, inch loss and freedom. Let the good results and temporary side effects come through, positive or negative. This is your body’s own way of healing itself. All are good signs, as they mean that the process is working.
How does detoxifying help me lose weight?
Detoxification holds that certain toxins such as chemicals and pesticides can build up in the body, particularly in fat cells. These toxins need to be cleansed away as part of a well-rounded dietary and exercise program. In an optimally working lymphatic system, the need to store toxins encapsulated in fluid and fat is eliminated resulting in weight loss.
Who should NOT have XTRACT Bodywork?
People currently receiving radiation or chemotherapy, have open cuts or wounds, blood clots, are pregnant or nursing, have active bumps or rashes, current bacterial infections, are on blood thinners, or have had a recent surgery. Consult with your healthcare professional first if you have acute or serious medical conditions or are on prescription medications.
